The most important part of being a hairstylist is continuing education! The trends are always changing, and new techniques are always coming into play that will help our team improve their skill set!
In March we will be joined by the Hanzo team to provide a refresher on cutting skills, the ever-popular Bob Haircut, and maintaining spectacular line work when using shears!

This month, our team took one of their day’s off to soak up some education with Wahl Educator Benny Machado. With fades and undercuts slowly making a comeback, and our Men’s services expanding, we wanted to polish our skills with clippers. We had a great day expanding our talent and appreciate the time Benny took to work with our team!

Every year, our team chooses local organizations or communities in need within Hampton Roads that we can support. While hair is our passion, we believe in giving back to the community that supports our ability to do what we love.
This year, we will be participating in Paint 757 Purple with Samaritan House. This incredible organization works in our own backyard to support victims of abuse, violence, homelessness, and human trafficking in amazing ways. Paint 757 Purple is their annual initiative to raise money so that they can continue providing amazing services to those who need it most. With a focus on self-empowerment and growth towards self-sufficency, Samaritan House truly provides resources to individuals in need that will allow them to get back on track in their lives.
From Tuesday, October 23 to Saturday, October 27th, we will have Purple Clip-In Extensions available for purchase. All proceeds from your purchase will be donated to Samaritan House. Try on a new color without commitment and support an amazing local organization in our community all at the same time! We will also accept monetary donations for those who wish to support this event.

Education is KEY
We spent our day off practicing Balayage techniques with Steve Waldman from Matrix! This popular color service takes technique, time, and focus, so we wanted to ensure we were at the top of our game. Steve helped our team solidify their Balayage techniques so that we’re offering only the best color services to our clients.
Practice makes perfect, and now we’re ready to create some highlighting perfection on your locks! Book a Balayage and we’ll show you all that we learned!
Our stylists will be meeting with the education team from Samaritan House to talk about our responsibility to remain educated on how we, as stylists, can play a role in identifying signs and helping victims of domestic violence.
Because the salon chair is often a place of refuge, vulnerability, and our clients gift us with their trust, we feel it is important that should a concern ever arise regarding the health, safety, and wellness of a guest in our salon, our team is prepared to act in a responsible manner that serves in the best interest of all parties involved.
We look forward to learning more about Samaritan House and how we will plan to support them for our 2018 Fall Fundraiser in their annual effort, Paint 757 Purple.
Our Deva-stylists worked with our local DevaCurl educator, Nicole, to hone their skills on creating custom product cocktails based on unique curl needs, and practiced the important steps of a No Poo Transformation to maximize curl definition.
It can be easy to fall into routines when performing similar services each day, so it's important for our team that we continuously go back to basics and practice being at the top of our hair game!
Our team reviewed the Shades EQ line to remind ourselves of creative ways we can play with color to get the perfect looks. Summer is the season of highlights so we focused on sharpening our skills on foil services and color formulating.

The Pravana Team stopped in to talk about toning - an imperfect science that can sometimes leave even masters of coloring stumped. We can never use enough education, practice, and support!
In this class with Matrix, we focused on what we are declaring the color of 2018 - copper! Our "model", Chelsea was pre-lightened with a fresh balayage and our stylists worked together to formulate and create a dimensional, double-process.

Every year Versus participates in the Making Strides Walk Against Breast Cancer at Mt. Trashmore. We are proud to support the women we know and the ones we don't yet know who are affected by breast cancer.
After our recent switch to Matrix for our primary color line, we had a class to review the many possibilities we now have to create amazing looks for our clients!
Our first ever curl-centered event, we are proud to support our local curly girls and naturalistas! We look forward to PART 2!
For our Fall Fundraiser, we chose to support a friend of the Versus Family, Gunnar. We were able to raise an incredible donation for Gunnar and his family and he continues to fight against childhood cancer. The support of our clients was amazing - thank you!
