Common Curl Mistakes
Going natural and creating a new care routine for your curls can be overwhelming, and there is so much information available online that sometimes misguides our clients doing their own research. Here are the most common curl mistakes we see:
Using Oils to Moisturize : Using oils before applying your water-based styling products leads to low porosity hair, making your curl routine even more difficult in the long-run. Oils should only be used as a sealant on curls that are medium in texture. Coarse curls are better suited with products like curl butters to offer the right type of moisture
Brush Detangling : using a brush to detangle your curls is not only quite uncomfortable, but also pulls your curl, altering your curl pattern. When you are ensuring you’re knot-free, use a Tangle Teezer brush while you have conditioner in your hair. This helps add slip to help detangle without the discomfort and prevent breakage
The Right Products for YOU : with an abundance of curl-influencers who share their personal care routines and product favorites, many of our clients imitate styling routines and product choices from their favorite online idols without considering that these products/routines work for that persons curls, but not necessarily your own. Your porosity, moisture, and texture needs are unique to you and it’s important to receive personalized recommendations that keep your curls healthy
