A Guide to Going Blonde
So you’ve been thinking of going blonde… There are many things to consider before making the plunge to the #BlondeLife. Here are some considerations to make if you’re wondering whether or not blondes really have more fun…
Do you have color on your hair already?
Going blonde means we are using chemicals to remove color from your hair. When using home dye-kits and box color, deposits are left behind that make this process more difficult and increase potential damage to your hair. If you have color on your hair already, whether it was a home application or salon service, ask your stylist about doing a test strip to see if your goals are achievable.
Consider your curl pattern!
Going blonde can and will affect your curl pattern. Many clients notice altered curl patterns and stretching after going lighter, and you may also experience additional dryness. You may need to use stronger-hold curl products when styling to adjust to the effects on your curl pattern.
Invest in regular treatments.
After a lightening service, clients are more prone to dryness and breakage. Alternating between protein and hydration steam treatments once per month will help to protect your hair, keep it healthy and strong following your service, and prevent frizz.
What kind of maintenance are you willing to do?
Once your blonde begins to grow out, it will need touch ups. Based on how often you are interested in attending maintenance sessions, your stylist may recommend a different technique like Balayage to create a more natural grow-out, lessening your need for maintenance touch-ups.
Can you change up your product routine to keep your color protected?
Whether you have curly hair or straight hair, it is important to protect your blonde to prevent fading into unwanted yellow tones. We recommend special shampoos and color-safe conditioners that might require you to change up your usual product routine. These products are crucial to maintaining your new blonde look and protecting the health of your hair!
