Cold Weather Hair Care
Throughout the winter months, the combination of the cold outdoor weather changes and the dry heat indoors will wreak havoc on your locks. This causes split ends, breakage, and dull looking hair… and who wants that? There are a few steps you can take before the cold weather really sets in to make sure that fabulous mane is ready to go come the spring time.
Commit to weekly at home treatments to keep the hair hydrated.
Cold air means dryer hair, committing to weekly treatments to add that extra moisture is a must during this season. This can be at home or in the salon, but be sure to leave the product on for at least 5-10 minutes and add heat or steam to see the best results. We love our DevaCurl Heaven in Hair Deep Conditioner.
Cut down on your heat-centered routine, give the hair a break!
We get it, heat makes things easier. But the added dryness of the winter season and combination of the heat from styling tools, your hair will thank you come the end of the season if you hold off on the heat. Try a more natural style such as flexi-rods, perm rod sets, or braids. If you do have to use some heat here or there, make sure you are using the lowest possible setting.
Don’t forget your scalp!
Find a shampoo and conditioner that caters towards scalp health. Just as your hair does, your skin goes through a transformation with the seasonal change. Dryness, flakiness, and itchiness aren’t just reserved for the skin you can see. Under that gorgeous hair is an area that deserves just as much love. Try a shampoo with stimulating ingredients. We love our It’s Natural Rosemary line by Influance. Enriched with other nourishing ingredients such as willow bark and peppermint, this secret weapon is going to make sure your never having to hid any flakes with a hat during this dry season.
Go darker for the winter months
As much as you want to achieve that perfect platinum blonde, we say leave that where it belongs, with the golden rays of summer. Darker trends allow you to keep the amount of lightening needed to achieve the look to a minimum, which is a process notorious for stripping moisture and causing breakage. If your overall hair goal is to comb at dryness and to avoid damage and breakage, those blonde highlights aren’t doing any favors. We love the Cinnamon Ombré and the Spiced Chestnut trends happening in 2020!
Winter hair can be a battle you don’t even know your re fighting, but rest assured we can all make it through this time with a little TLC.
