Tips for Trading Between Curly and Straight Styling

A common question we receive is: what type of service is best for me if I wear my hair both curly and straight?

Well, honestly, there is no magic cut that will hold a perfect shape when it’s curly and when it’s straight. When curly hair is cut straight, the hair has been stretched out and so a shape is created to please the hair in that state. There is a higher priority for straight lines when cutting. When hair is then curled again, the shape will be different and potentially uneven. When our curl specialists perform curly cuts on dry curls, the priority is creating a shape that will flatter your curls and avoid loose curls falling randomly, but tends to be more flexible because curls lend themselves to bouncier lines.

Our best advice is to choose the service that best suits how you wear your hair most often. If you are most frequently straightening your curls, a traditional Shampoo/Cut/Blowdry will provide even lines and layers. If you are a dedicated curlista, a DevaCut will give you a more even and pleasant shape that works for your wash-n-go styling.

If you are one of these clients who likes to trade between wearing your tresses curly and straight, make sure you tell your stylist so they can do their best to provide a shape that will give you the most likelihood of having a flattering shape no matter what style you’re feelin’!
