[Edited March 24, 2020]
Dear Clients,
We had made the difficult decision to close the salon for two weeks in the best interest of our team, our families, and our community that we do our part to do the right thing. We have now been ordered by the governor to remain closed until June 10th. While we know it is important to stay home so we can protect the health of others in our community, we are saddened that we will not be able to do what we love to do and see all of your lovely smiles!
We welcome you to reach out to us with any questions or concerns you might have. Please protect your health, your loved ones, and your sense of wellness during this time of uncertainty. We look forward to returning to doing what we do best very soon and hope to see you then!
Stay Safe, Healthy, and Sanitized!
XOXO
Team Versus
In the midst of the Coronavirus pandemic, Versus Salon is committed to protecting the health and safety of our guests as well as our staff members. We are closely monitoring the progress and severity of the virus as it has made its way into our Hampton Roads community, and have taken additional steps to keep our salon space sanitized. To ensure our staff and all of our guests remain healthy when visiting our salon, we have asked that any of our staff members with symptoms stay home until they are completely well. We will be asking our clients to offer the same courtesy and reschedule their appointments if they are feeling unwell or showing any symptoms of illness. As a courtesy during this time, clients who need to cancel due to possible illness will not receive penalties on any deposits made towards appointments that require rescheduling. In the event that a client arrives to the salon showing symptoms of poor health, we will kindly ask that they reschedule their appointment as a safety precaution to all who share our creative space. We are taking this outbreak very seriously and continue to prioritize the well-being of our team and our clients. If you have any questions or concerns about upcoming appointments with us, please contact the salon at 757-200-8890.
With so much information going around about what products you should use, what products you shouldn’t use, what will be toxic, etc. we wanted to inform you about the different ingredients you might commonly find in hair products and what their significance is:
Clarifying: Shampoos that are labeled as clarifying shampoos are designed to completely strip the hair of all oils, dirt, and buildup which makes for a great wash day, but you should also be aware that these cleansers will strip your hair of color! Stay away from cleansers listed with terms like “purifying”, “clarifying”, etc. to be sure you can keep your hair healthy and clean without stripping your fabulous color service
Sulfates: These ingredients create a lathering effect in shampoos to help scrub your scalp. These should be avoided if you have sensitive skin or dermatological conditions, and should be used minimally if you have curls to avoid dryness and frizz
Parabens: Parabens are intended to promote growth and prevent bacteria. While they have been connected to cancer, this is only when they are used in amounts much larger than anything you would find in your hair products
SIlicones: These ingredients are intended to create a slippery-feel that mimics true hydration, but they are actually just causing lots of buildup and weighing down your hair, which leads to breakage. You should limit the number of products you use that contain silicones.
Formaldehyde: Some products may contain this carcinogen that is harmful if inhaled, and they are intended to act as a preservative. Check your ingredients to avoid products containing formaldehyde.
At Versus Salon, we offer three different types of Curly Cuts, but what is the difference and how does a client know which service will be best suit their goals?
RezoCut : This curl-cutting technique is a unique way of sectioning curls during a cut that results in a rounded, voluminous shape
DevaCut : The DevaCut is a curl-by-curl cutting technique that creates a waterfall shape and maximizes your unique curl pattern
Ouidad Cut : Especially helpful for clients that are blessed with very thick hair, this cutting technique focuses on debulking
When you book a Curl Cut with one of our curl specialists, they will often customize the techniques used and combine their training experience to suit your curl pattern and cater to your end goal. We always invite our hesitant curly girls to visit us for a complimentary consultation before booking their service to speak with a stylist and learn more about the process so you know what to expect on the day of your appointment!
When you’re in a rush and need to blowdry your curls, here are our top tips for using a diffuser to maximize your results -
Allow your hair to air-dry as much as possible and use your diffuser to touch up the ends
Keep your hands out of your hair! The natural oils in our skin cause frizz
Check your body position - tilt your upper body forwards for volume, or sideways to avoid additional volume so your curls are falling downward while you diffuse
If your blowdryer has a COOL setting, use this feature to avoid the harsh heat damaging your wash’n’go
Section your curls and only spend 15-20 seconds on each section to avoid overdrying, frizz, and heat damage
