Know Your Curls
We’ve all done it, scrolling through Instagram, you see these girls slaying their curls and you just know you are ready to step your curl game up too. Getting that Curlista look seems simple on the surface, but there is a more than meets the eye.
Identifying your curl type is the first step into knowing what your curls can and cannot do. Like every person, every hair type and texture is different, so let’s get started with a guide of how you know what texture you’re rocking and how to transition to the healthiest version of your hair!
Type 2 Curls
2A curls are curls that are straight at the crown and become wavy with length. 2B Curls have waves that are about 1 inch in length and are more prone to frizz. 2C Curls are thick, course, and 2-3 inches in length.
Type 3 Curls
3A curls are stretched, loose, and loopy curls. 3B curls are medium ringlets with easy bounce-back when pulled. 3C Curls are tight, straw sized curls with springy texture and easily absorb water.
Type 4 Curls
4A curls are tightly curled with visible curly-kinky texture. 4B curls are kinky when dry but loose when wet and very little curl definition. 4C curls are very tightly coiled with short “Z” pattern and texture remains tight or has additional shrinkage when wet, no visible curl definition.
The bad news is, if you come with your hair stretched from heat, color, or chemical damage, you may not receive the immediate results and gratification you are wanting.
